Internship so farInternship so far for me has been fun and very enjoyable. After the first week I began to adjust well to the environment and it became easier to do things and talk to people since everyone is so kind! I do a lot of stuff now such as the laundry (there's always a lot of towels that need to be washed), getting medical supplies they need, cleaning, I even got to clip a cat's nails! I've never clipped a cat's nails before, only dogs, and I don't see much of a difference? Except if you want their nails to pop out more to make it easier to cut you need to apply pressure against their toe beans. I do a lot of observing too, this week I got to watch about 6 dentals (teeth cleaning, checking teeths' condition). For each one I washed I learned more and more depending on who was doing the dental, though I will admit right now I can't exactly remember the exact words they said, but I know the process? Things such as you can't press down too hard on the tooth your cleaning with the tool otherwise it could burn the tooth, you should do your cleaning in a pattern so you don't miss any spots, things such as that. I also finally discovered and got a good grip of what my project is and it's about the wellness for pets and called 'Preventative Wellness for Pets.' I'm going to make a presentation for this project and I'm going to talk about how vaccines are needed for pets, prevention, things you need to get for pets within California. What has surprised you most while working at your internship?I feel like nothing has really surprised me about internship maybe except for all the new knowledge I am getting? Also how tired it can get you! I'm really not used to doing stuff like this so I always feel tired and I noticed that I eat more since I walk back and forth a lot during the times I'm there. I also started bringing in my own lunch for internship since it's both cheaper and I feel more prepared that way. Despite the fact I usually buy lunch I started enjoying bringing it in everyday, I know exactly what I'm going to be eating plus I don't need to leave from the building during lunch break which is a huge plus since I do not know the area that well. I feel like I'd end up getting lost quite easily and come back late which isn't what I want. How has or do you see your internship changing the way you consider that paths your future will take?I feel like after being able to experience all this for the past two weeks I'm now realizing how hard things are. I understand that it's hard either way, but being able to get hand to hand experience and such makes things more eye opening. I feel like because of this I need to consider changing my routines and such so that I am more fit for the career I want in the future. I'm still interested in working with animals, that hasn't changed, but I feel more scared now wondering if I can handle all of it. It's overwhelming at times especially memorizing all the names of the medicine they use and knowing whats what and how to use it. I've been thought on what each machine does and how it does it, but sometimes I forget especially when it's long and has a lot of fancy words in it! So stressful! Raul giving his dog a dental!
